Choose where you want the bottom of the hinge to be and draw a line across.
From that bottom line, draw the top line that is the same thickness as your board.
Draw another line that is halfway between those two lines.
Transfer those lines all the way around your board.
Divide the space into four equal parts.
Do this on both sides.
Shade in every other square on your grid.
Do this on the other side of the board, making sure that you are not shading the one that is on the other side of the board.
From the center point of the side of the board, create an arc, sketched by hand, that we will chisel out.
The arch should be on diagonals from each other because the grid is shaded oppositely.
Do this on both sides.
Center punch the intersection of the inside of the rectangles on the ends.
Utilize a drill bit that is slightly bigger than the catch for the coping saw blade.
Drill all of the holes out.
Put the coping saw blade through the hole by pressing down on the table to make it easy to assemble.
Saw straight down through each of the center lines.
Clamp your board down and chisel the shaded areas in a semi circle towards the outside.
Repeat on the other side.
Begin cutting at the edge of the board, trying to get a groove started and pulling the saw backwards.
Saw down evenly down to the chiseled.
Make sure to check the other side to make sure it is not crooked
Turn the board over and cut on the other side down to the chiseled portion. You may need to grab a different saw to get all the way down.
Again make sure to check the other side to make sure your saw is not crooked.
If done correctly you should be able to open up your stand.
Utilize measurement and draw a symmetric set of legs for the bottom portion.
Create relief cuts down to your design.
Utilize a coping saw to cut out your design.
Utilize a rounded file to clean up the bottom edge.
Draw a line where you plan to cut for the ledge of stand.
I had to cut the front legs shorter so that it would stand straighter up. A 45 degree angle was too steep and my phone would fall backwards.
